What is The Summit?
How much time do you think about the future? Or let’s put it this way: How much time do you think about the role you are going to play in shaping the future?
This is the time and the place to be asking that question and coming up with an answer. The Schreyer Honors College believes that the leaders of the future are right here at Penn State. They are in classrooms and research labs where seeds of ideas are starting to take root. They are on stage and at town halls giving voice to the visions of new realities. They are in far off places doing the kinds of hands-on work in the field that leads to discovery and innovation.
The SHC also believes that the best way to prepare to lead is to learn from those who have led and who want to share their experience, their vision, and their wisdom.
To put successful leaders of today front and center before those who will achieve great success tomorrow, the Schreyer Honors College is holding the “Shaping the Future Summit,” a yearlong conversation on the issues and challenges to be addressed in the coming years. Programs held throughout the academic year will lead up to the Summit, the keynote event which will bring a global leader to Penn State.
The focus of the inaugural “Shaping the Future” Summit is “The Impact of Innovation,” and Dr. Peter Diamandis, entrepreneur, best-selling author, and the co-founder and CEO of the X Prize Foundation, has been selected to deliver the keynote address on April 1, 2014.
Between now and then, special events are planned to get the entire Penn State community thinking about the future across disciplines and interests. Topics include the future of technology, entrepreneurship, healthcare, and sustainability.
On April 1, a full day is being planned, including a research showcase highlighting the projects Penn State undergraduates are working on in labs and libraries across the University.
Join us at the Summit to shape the future.
